Making Music and Making a Difference

My name is Philip, and I'm the lead singer/guitarist of Quebec rock trio The Sound Approach. For the next four months, I will also be a member of Team 1 of Live Different's motivational productions division, which means I will be going from Ontario to Newfoundland (and everywhere in between), spreading a message of purpose and hope in Canadian high schools.

Great Moments in Live Different Academy

When I first decided to join the Live Different Academy, the thought about moving into a house with 20 people was a bit shocking but I knew that we were all coming here for a good reason! Once I landed at the airport in Hamilton I was so excited to meet everyone, and I had a feeling that this was going to be a life experience that I will never forget!

Jauntaroo and Live Different!

Hey everyone!

We are pretty excited that a little slice of our world appeared on the Marilyn Denis Show on CTV! Jauntaroo, an amazing travel website that you should check out, is a supporter and fan of traveling with a purpose - and they want the world to know that they love Live Different's Hero Holiday program!

You can see our little glimpse of daytime tv notoriety here. We make our appearance at the 2:45 mark!

Four Months and Not One Bad Day!

Did you know that it’s possible to go four months without having one bad day? Yeah I didn’t either, but due to a series of random events that resulted in my joining the Live Different Academy, i now know that it is in fact very possible!

Final day in the hills of Zapata

For most, I would guess, the week has gone by too fast. For the people of the hills, given the cold weather, this winter week may have gone by too slowly. It's all relative . Poverty exists where reality falls below expectations. A person may not be poor if they believe that life is providing them with all that they truly need. One person's necessity may represent another's unnecessary luxury. It's all relative.

Building in the San Quintin Valley

The first thing that really struck me on the trip was the similarity between us, those who have come to build from Canada, and the local people.

In Their Shoes...

Yesterday's visit to the garbage dump was quite different than what we had experienced before. Maybe it has been one of the most intense for me. The mixture of emotions that I felt there is difficult to explain, but I'll try my best...

Poverty is Real

Hello my name is Brandi. I’m 17 years old and visiting Mexico from the small town of Edam, Saskatchewan. I came to Mexico thinking I would simply meet new people, observe another culture, and lend a helping hand. There couldn’t be a bigger understatement.

Indescribable!

One day earlier this year, I was searching the web for something special to do with my daughter over the past summer. The link that came up for 'Live Different' completely caught my attention, and I had to click on it. The more I read, the more interested and enthusiastic I became to participate . The ideas and concepts that were demonstrated on this website were something that my husband Carlos and I have been looking for for a long time. We have always wanted to make a difference in the world, we just didn't know how.

Christmas in Dominican!

Right now I'm sitting on the bed in my hotel room at Sosua by the Sea, faintly hearing Nicolas (one of the servers) singing beautifully as he cleans the dining hall. Hearing him sing makes me love the Dominican culture and love this country even more. It makes me relax and want to sleep after a hard day of work.

Changing The World One Heart at a Time

It all started when I got an email at work saying that Westjet had partnered with an organization called Live Different, and that they were sending 50 lucky Westjetters on an amazing journey called Hero Holiday. I have never heard of them before, but it sounded great! I wanted so badly to apply, but with two small kids, and with the first trip being held during Easter Vacation, it was just not the right time for me. Fast forward about four months, there was another email “We are going again!!“ I decided that I would apply this time, thinking that out of about 200 Westjetters that applied, I would never get picked, but at least I would know that I had tried.

Road Team Assistant Position Available Immediately (January 8th - June 7th, 2013)

A Haitian Vacation – Frantzo's first visit to Canada

This November 15th Frantzo Begin left the island of Hispaniola for the first time to see the vast country of Canada. There were many firsts on this trip for Frantzo...

A Little Piece of Heaven

We packed our bags and set off on our journey to San Felipe. We stayed in San Felipe for a week and during our time there we had the opportunity to do various volunteer jobs and work with many inspiring people. There was one day in particular that touched our hearts, all in different ways. We went to an orphanage, Casa De Fe- which means Home of Faith.

Life is painting a picture

On an ideal Saturday in Mexico, like today was, most people would probably want to be spending time on the beach getting tan, or even just lounging around. While these things sound pretty great, it’s not how we chose to spend our day. Instead, we spent three and a half hours in a dusty cemetery painting rocks white...doesn’t sound like a great time eh?
