Angelina is a hardworking single mother to four kids. Every day early in the morning she heads to work cleaning the home of a wealthy family in Vicente Guerrero. The $70 USD she makes a week is not enough to cover her expenses and at times the family struggles with even the basic necessities, such as food. Despite her hardships, Angelina looks towards to her family’s future and keeps punctual on an expensive monthly land payment. She gives great priority to her children’s education and her oldest daughter that currently lives at home is now a 3rd semester Architecture student. Her oldest son is soon to graduate high school, and her two young daughters attend 7th and 3rd grade. The family rents 2 small rooms in town and building a home has not been possible due to her low income and high cost of building materials. Angelina’s determination and will to see her kid’s progress and escape the cycle of poverty is inspiring. It’s great to see a person with hope! Angelina is needless to say, thrilled and excited to build her family a home alongside the group of people who will change her life.

Live Different chooses to employ and work alongside local labourers and tradespeople in communities where we have established connections and relationships. No family is ever simply a “project” for us, and each family is chosen and approved through a process with local community workers. Each home is one that will be built with love, hope, and dignity – together.
