Sharing Your Information

We will not share, sell, rent or lease your information to any third parties except for the reasons below.

This Privacy Policy (Policy) sets out the personal information management practices for LiveDifferent with reference to all of LiveDifferent’s internet activity (for example, my.livedifferent.com, livedifferent.com, store.livedifferent.com, livedifferent.ca, absolute.org, heroholiday.com, etc), its social media presence (eg. Facebook, googleforms, etc.) and its paper data storage systems. Collectively, these are referred to as ‘the Sites’.

These practices seek to balance an individual’s right to the privacy of his or her personal information and the need for LiveDifferent to collect, use, disclose and otherwise manage the personal information provided through the use of the Sites and information submitted to LiveDifferent for various services offered by us.

LiveDifferent updates this Policy from time to time. You are responsible for reviewing the most current version of this Policy and by continuing to use the Sites, you are accepting the updates made to the Policy. This Policy was last amended on the date shown at the end of the Policy.

Our Commitment

LiveDifferent is committed to protecting your privacy and maintaining the confidentiality of all personal information. We are committed to controlling the collection, use and disclosure of the personal information provided to us by our volunteers, donors, community families and others. LiveDifferent collects and uses personal information primarily to carry out and maintain our organizational mission.

Specifically, we use information to:

– Communicate with and solicit existing and potential donors
– Communicate with, inform and support key stakeholders including our Board of Directors, community partners, other non-profit service groups, suppliers, government agencies and foundations
– Carry out our programs

Anyone from whom we collect such information should expect that it will be carefully protected and that any use of or other dealing with this information is subject to consent.

Personal Information

Personal information is information that can be used to distinguish, identify or contact a specific individual. This information can include an individual’s opinions or beliefs, as well as facts about, or related to, the individual. Examples of personal information include your social insurance number, age, marital status, and language. Information that is not considered personal includes business contact information and certain publicly available information, such as names, addresses, and telephone numbers as published in telephone directories.

Personal information may be provided to LiveDifferent through correspondence, online donations, registrations, inquiries, or other forms of communication.

We collect personal information such as your name, age, address, email address, credit card details, passport information and medical information as required, particularly when you are engaged with LiveDifferent Academy or LiveDifferent Builds.

Other information may be collected on the Sites without you actively providing the information by using various technologies, as described below:

SERVER LOGS: While you use the Sites, certain information is collected without you actively providing it, including information about your IP address and type of operating system, the time you spend on the Sites and which pages you visited. This helps us improve our Sites. This data is not used to identify individuals. We track IP addresses for: (i) troubleshooting issues; (ii) voting events, to confirm people are not voting for an individual more than once; and (iii) for all people who are filling out online forms for the purpose of spam filtering.

DEMOGRAPHIC AND INTEREST REPORTING: We have implemented Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel. We use the data provided to develop the site, content and ads around our users’ interests. You can opt out of Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel by using this generic tool: http://www.aboutads.info/choices/ . In addition, you can use the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on to disable tracking by Google Analytics.

COOKIES: Cookies – tokens of information given to your browser when you access a website – help us track usage of the Sites and improve the Sites for you. If you prefer to not use cookies, you can set your browser to disable cookies. Please note you will not be able to use the shopping cart or log onto the Sites if you have cookies disabled.

The use of Cookies is normal industry practice. Cookies on the Sites are used for the shopping cart. This is a built-in functionality that stores the items in the cart until a user is ready to check out. Cookies will also remember a user if they return to the cart after leaving the website. Cookies are also used by Google Analytics to track statistics about hits, browsers, traffic, etc.

Privacy Practices

Personal information gathered by LiveDifferent is kept in confidence. LiveDifferent personnel use personal information based only on their need to deal with the information for the reason(s) for which it was obtained. Safeguards are in place to ensure that the information is not disclosed or shared more widely than is necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was gathered. We also take measures to ensure the integrity of this information is maintained and to prevent it being lost or destroyed. For example, when you provide personal information through our Sites, the information is encrypted as it is transmitted between you and the Sites. We acknowledge that no Internet data transmission is guaranteed 100% secure. As a result we cannot warrant the security of any information transmitted to us via this web site.

Further, we employ security measures to protect personal information in our care appropriate to the level of sensitivity of the information. Passwords are changed regularly for applications that contain sensitive information and two-factor authentication is used when accessing email from a secondary computer.

We collect, use and disclose personal information only for purposes that a reasonable person would consider appropriate considering the circumstances. Before your personal information will be used or disclosed for a new purpose, we will ask you for your consent, unless use or disclosure without your consent in the circumstances is otherwise permitted or required by law, regulation or court order.

In addition, we may use or disclose your personal information to enforce or apply the Terms of Use of the Sites, to the extent that your personal information is required in order to determine whether the Terms of Use have been violated.

LiveDifferent will not provide or share your personal information with third parties unless:

– You authorize us to share the information (for example, If we need to provide the information to an airline or other applicable partner organization for the purpose of your LiveDifferent Builds or Academy travels);
– Sharing the information is necessary to process a credit card transaction, for example; or
We are required by law.

Consent

If you submit your email address through the Sites, you may occasionally receive emails from LiveDifferent for the following purposes: (i) when you are registering for a program, we may confirm your email address is accurate; and (ii) we will send a thank you email when you sign up, or register for an event or if you subscribe to our newsletter or weekly column. If you would rather not receive this information, you can let us know that you would like to opt-out. In addition, such communications sent to you will also contain a message on how to opt-out (or unsubscribe) of that type of communication in the future.

You may refuse to provide personal information and may, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice, withdraw consent at any time to the continued use and disclosure of personal information previously collected. Refusing or withdrawing your consent in respect of our handling of certain personal information may result in us being unable to provide you with LiveDifferent products and services. You can withdraw your consent at any time by writing to privacy@livedifferent.com.

Website and Electronic Commerce

LiveDifferent uses services requiring password protocols and encryption software to protect personal and other information we receive when a product or service is requested and/or paid for online. All such third-party service providers must be in compliance with PIPEDA and have an established and published privacy policy available for all users.

Personally identifiable information is not collected unless specifically submitted via an online registration function or registration form, an electronic mail message, a phone call or postal mail. All information is kept confidential – this is subject to any legal requirements to disclose. All information is protected by LiveDifferent’s physical, electronic and managerial security methods, which are updated as necessary.

Information you provide through the website may be used periodically to keep you informed of LiveDifferent and its programs, services, opportunities to volunteer, events, and funding needs. If at any time you no longer wish to receive such information, please contact us at privacy@livedifferent.com.

LiveDifferent’s web pages may provide links to other third-party websites. These are provided for convenience only and you access them at your own risk. While we try to link only to websites that share our standards and respect for privacy, we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of other websites. We strongly encourage all visitors to the Sites to review the privacy statements and policies of all external websites.

Access to Your Information

You are entitled to know whether we hold personal information about you, see that information, and ensure it is accurate. Personal information is securely maintained by LiveDifferent. Please note that under certain circumstances, you may not be permitted to view your records, such as where the disclosure of your records would cause security, legal or confidentiality concerns, and including where LiveDifferent is prohibited by law to disclose that to you.
